I looked into booking a RT from EWR-BOS for next week. Cheapest fares are over $900 for coach and $1200 for business. I remember the fares on this route are high but don't remember them being this high. I can't wait for Jetblue and Southwest to come into EWR to add some competition and save me from flying out of LGA or JFK.

I don't know what you are talking about. $4.50/mi is a deal.

More flights. More mainline. More convenience. Generally half, if not a third, of the price.
Yeah, LGA can be a pain in the a$s but EWR between BOS and DCA is absolutely nonsensical.

a RT EWR-BOS 5/4-5/5 on CO is $202 AI. On B6 it is $139 AI.

Clearly CO thinks it's service EWR-BOS is still worth a $63 premium. That's 32 CPM by the way.

Looks like I will be flying a lot more B6 if this doesn't change.

For cityfisher, it looks like Amtrak offers the Acela from NY Penn from $200 and credits CO miles if you can afford a little more transit time.

    Update your status...
I personally enjoy the B6 product and would happily chose them over CO/UA, especially at that price point.

B6 product is nice, but TrueBlue...it ain't what it used to be.

I had (well, I still have but dont use it much anymore, just haven't cancelled yet) the JetBlue Amex, which made it incredibly easy to get award flights. I forget what the $/Points ratio was, but I think it was ridiculously low like $1000=10points. Combine that with flying B6 often, earning 6-8 points per segment, and you had a True Blue Reward on your doorstep pretty damn often.

If you book in advance, this route has been pretty good as Wandering Aramean wrote.

Late last year these WERE CHEAP and I gobbled up quite a bit:

    July 4 weekend 139.00 AI
    May weekend 139.00 AI
    Thanksgiving weekend 173.00 AI
    October weekend 139.00 AI
    Labor Day 139.00 AI

These are mostly booked on CO mainline and a few q400's for a couple of the RTs.

The prices for a while mimic'd jet blues prices (the 139 AI's were booked in Nov and December 2010 for 2011 travel). I saw the cheap price and bought them up :)

As you can see Jet Blue really made a difference here, prices are up a bit now (booked thanksgiving last month) but seriously good prices, just got to be able to spend a lot of time looking around (and not having to take a last minute business trip :( )

Because of the outrageous price, I had to turn my one day Boston trip into an overnight. Now flying B6 out of JFK with a stay at the Boston Westin for a grand total about half of the 900+ fare that CO wanted. Not ideal as I live in NJ about 30 minutes from EWR but I will get some SPG points and can try out the new B6 terminal at JFK.

slightly off topic but BOS has other good deals to on CO and UA

I also bought a CO BOS-BWI all in for 126.00!!!

And a June weekend BOS-IAD on UA mainline (752s) for 171.00 AI

I love MHT airport but BOS is winning a LOT of my business these days - almost 70% of my travel.

And I got BOS-SAN for $60, though I'm guessing that the BWI fare was less of a mistake. ;)

Same deal from ORD-EWR, that's another CO cash cow gone forever.

You should try flights out of CLE. CLE-PHL for a one day flight is $950 RT  and non-refundable!!
CLE-BOS was more than $1000 RT for a 1 day flight. I saved $100 by flyng into Manchester. I hope Jet Blue makes CLE one of their targets if UACO actually thinks of moving out. We are taking a bath here and people say that CLE isn't a cash cow for UACO???
