I don't know if I am happy or sad to see SAS heading for bankruptcy. As much as restructuring is needed, it's sad to see SAS going down that road. But a question comes to mind now with no agreement till this hour, what happens to those members with a lot of EuroBonus miles if SAS does go bankrupt tonight?

Well, if bankruptcy in the EU is anything like the US, just because they go into bankruptcy doesn't mean they're going to go out of business. If they just restructure in bankruptcy, your miles are probably safe. You're probably only in trouble unless they go out of business. Then you're SOL.

Edited to add: Never mind, just saw the thread on TOBB. You (and your miles) might be in trouble. :(

FYI, if anyone's looking for the thread I referenced above, it's in the BA forum on TOBB. There may be a thread in the SAS forum, but the thread I saw was in the BA forum.

OK. I know this clearly identifies me as an amateur. But anyway: What / who / where is TOBB?

It looks like SAS has been saved, so all the points are safe as well!

Does SAS deserve to be saved? Operating three hubs in countries with combined population of under 20 million doesn't sound like a sound business case. And Norweigian Air Shuttle is kicking their butt.

It's referred to as TOBB (The Other Bulletin Board).

SAS has been built around a model that promotes job security rather than corporate profitability. It may not really deserve to be saved and I may have liked for it to go bankrupt for restructuring and launching back with a better model. But for now, I think it allows them some time to do that while in business rather than just go bankrupt overnight. I hope the success of Swiss replicates itself for SAS.
