Planning trip to Lalibela and Simien mountains.
Supposedly awesome scenery and well worth a visit.
Also read there are problems with fleas. True or false?

Where did you hear this? Problems with large numbers of fleas or problems with fleas passing disease?

Ethiopia has been high on my wish list for quite a while. Think I'm going to finally get there next year, but I'm a magnet for any biting insect, so this is cause for concern.

Read it in Lonely Planet...and other online resources.
Just returned. Yep - some people got many bites from ?fleas, ?bedbugs etc. I was lucky I only had a few.

  4. In Ethiopia, the most famous place is Rift Valley, which is part of the famous East African Rift Valley, there is numerous hot springs, beautiful lakes and a variety of wildlife. The Great Rift Valley's passage through a chain of seven lakes. Each of the seven lakes has its own special life and character.

I might have the opportunity to spend about five days in Ethiopia next Spring. Any recommendations for a tour guide/company and what to see in such a limited amount of time?

Nope, sadly I didn't. My wife did go, but not for a tour.

Bummer, I've flown in and out of Addis Ababa several times and it looks beautiful from the air; so much history and culture as well...

If you ever get the chance, Ethiopian Air (SA) runs the Dreamliner non-stop from Dulles to Addis Ababa.

My wife was booked on the Dreamliner from FRA, but they had to substitute a 757.

I flew to Ethiopia this July, and was on the non-stop from Dulles...it wasn't bad, except they had quite a few IFE monitors out...couple of my friends had looooong flights because there were no replacement seats.
