How does the new Envoy compare to LH business class? Envoy's seats look better but I imagine you sacrifice some service. Booking my first long haul award trip and need some advice.

It depends on the specific aircraft model you will be on.

On US the airbus 330-200 (332) is really nice. It has flat-beds and the seat feels very private. The 330-300 (333) is currently being transformed to these seats. The 767 is very similar to Lufthansa. It has angled beds, i.e., seat that can be made straight but at an annoying downward angle. I don't like the LH seats as I feel I am falling down when trying to sleep. LH has just introduced a new business class seat for their new 747-800 (748) but it will take years before you can be fairly sure to be on this new product.

If you can get the 332 on US then you should just book it.

Thanks. I went ahead and booked it. Looking forward to seeing it.

It has been said (can't find my source on this) but that the US Envoy Suites on the A332 (and soon to be A333) is the best Star Alliance biz seat across the Atlantic. Have flown it PHL-CDG and PHL-CDG and have been quite impressed...very worth it!

Though next time I fly across the pond, I will request the expedited meal service (everything brought at once as opposed to lea sure dining) so I can get more sleep.

Thanks, that's good to know. I am hoping some low mileage envoy seats open up for my return. If not will probably fly LH or LX to see how they compare

If you have a choice between LH and LX then pick LX.

They just released some "low" miles Envoy seats for our return so I booked with US for that portion as well. Would like to try LX but it will also be nice to get home from CDG with only 1 stop.

This makes perfect sense to me. Just make sure that either 332 or 333 is scheduled to fly you where you want to go.

It is the 333 outbound and 332 on the return. Wouldn't do the 767 unless I had no other choice

LX->US->LH for Business Class on both Hard and Soft Product...I have flown virtually everyone in *A except for SQ/OZ with a long haul J product and I'd put US over LH anytime anyday for J.

How long would you allow for connecting US to LH in FRA? Arriving early morning from PHL and it's my first time in FRA so I am not familiar.

When we connected in FRA on SMD3 it was fast, lot quicker than in the US. What is your connection time?

I think you should be fine since all Star Alliance operate out of the same terminal in FRA. You may not want to dawdle around, but you shouldn't have to rush either.
