I haven't seen the news of this, but all are in our thoughts at this time of need.

I posted my cot experience in Airports/DFW, but the best story of the morning is that West, TX, recently devastated by an explosion, offered to send 300 prepackaged meals to Granbury (tornado strike) to help out. That's exactly the thing that makes me proud in times like this - everyone pitches in.

Always sad when people lose their lives however please keep in mind this sort of storm is not unusual for this part of the world. It's really not the "massive devastation" you might think, it's a yearly occurrence. We don't build much of anything to withstand a tornado here, we rebuild when one hits something.

The local midday news today reported the tornado in Granbury, where 6 were killed, was a half-mile-wide EF4 that went through a subdivision. That's not unheard of, and it's certainly not the devastation like we saw up in Joplin, MO, but that's not an every year occurrence. The last EF4 in the area was in 1994 (Lancaster).

The subdivision was one mostly of homes built by Habitat for Humanity: damn! that has to be one huge blow.

I worked the Lancaster storm as a first responder/EMT while in police academy... after the tornado took part of the roof off of our house. Met my dad, an on-duty Dallas firefighter that night, on the scene as his crew was one called for mutual aid. Quite the scene. I can only imagine what the crews were doing last night...

One of my friends has been spending his retirement volunteering to construct these habitat for humanity houses. He was working on the 47th house the day of the tornado. Very sad, but happy to report that he and his wife made it out safely as did my other friends and family in the area.
