Merely brings into line with existing QF top and 2nd highest statuses (broadly, not exactly).

So- who is going for the new tier?
Except for the fact that QF Plat at 1400 status credits is far easier to achieve (and 1200 to retain) than EK Platinum, with 150K tier miles. I've taken 3 flights this week on EK and the onboard and ground experience are no different. The positive side will come re op-ups though and given that there are only 5500 Plat members worldwide, this should make a difference
It can be, but depends on your travel pattern.
For me, as with QF platinum 1, the extra benefits for the top tier do not seem worthwhile going out of my way to earn. I get more bang having multiple almost top statuses.
