Emirates finally sees FIFA as a brand not to be associated with
Good. FIFA is so corrupted. Their own report of course said they weren't.
IIRC Sony was the first one to pull out as sponsor.
I guess that makes Qatar Airways the logical sponsor, yes?
FIFA, IOC... they pretty much have killed all interest in their events that I had in the past.
The President of IOC caused a lot of stirr in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics.
During the games our tax payer money paid for him a whole floor of hotel + presidential room with a customized room that contained about 10 TV screen's for him to view/monitor the games during the event. (Couldn't he have just went to the events himself?) We also paid for all his food/expenses/etc.
Roads were sealed off just for him...etc. Ridiculous.
It is universally know that FIFA is corrupt as f%%% and the histories of their master representatives like Jack Warner provide a long and depressing litany:
This is not new, from 2006: http://mysoccerblog.blogspot.com/2006/09/fifa-tried-to-cover-up-warner-theft.html
At least the FBI is involved now.. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/11/13/politics/fbi-fifa-corruption-probe/
But FIFA are not the only world sports governing body in this race to the bottom. UK journo Andrew Jennings dug into this beginning two decades ago, with his Lord of the Rings series.
These reveal much of interest, including the not-subtle demands by IOC delegates for Swedish reps to serve as hookers during the IOC "evaluation" visit to Falun in the early 1990s. "We don't do that in Sweden..." Muahahaha!
Apparently, Jennings is persona non grata in Switzerland where the IOC sued him in Lausanne and won a judgment but it's unenforceable outside the medieval mountain kingdom.... a good thing, too.
Anyway, they all need a massive dose of the transparency and accountability to which they are pathologically allergic. Lord Coe might be able to do something about this at the IAAF, if he is elected, but FIFA is another matter.
A timely update...speaking of such corruption, this time IAAF, it's right here. According to our buddies at LR.COM yesterday, the Guardian was compelled to take down its pending front page story on Lamine Diack's son's bunga bunga:
Gotta love the baying frat boys on LR but at least these guys bring us the stories behind the stories or better, behind the un-stories, in the major media. OK, this is not in the FIFA league, but only because the sums involved are not so vast. Otherwise, they follow precisely the same "business model."
Airlines and global sporting bodies. It's not only EK and FIFA.
IAAF-sanctioned events do negotiate airline tie-ins. Remember, Cooly flies Swiss...
In its favor, at least this resulted in the best comedy to emerge from Switzerland in years. Ever. This video features such highlights as Cooly sexually assaulting the GA (0:17) and then the checkin agent (0:34, strange sequencing, surely s/he should first assault checkin, then GA?); cutting in line in front of other pax (1:23), at least being denied DYKWIA demand for UG (1:27); performing illegal ramp access (1:37-1:45); sexually assaulting the FA (1:50) and then illegally operating the main cabin door (2:00).
