In a bind, need a place to eat tonight with kids in NYC east mid 50s-60s. I know how to use google but I'm trying to sort through the crap and find a real gem. Any help?

Also, thoughts on where to get pizza...ideally in Manhatten.

What type of food? Kids in general eat all sorts of things.

Not picky, looking more for a friendly atmosphere. That is what's driving the question.

    I second that emotion.

UPDATE: Now realize I’m a little late in this reply.

    Best pizza in New York:

    http://www.johnsbrickovenpizza.com

In the West Village on Bleecker between 6th and 7th. Split a whole pie plain or plainish with their side salad. Cash only. Kind of a hole on the wall, not much atmosphere, but definitely an institution.

If you're doing touristy stuff, there's a larger, more corporate John's in midtown on 44th between 7th and 8th. It's in a building that used to be a church. Still great pizza, but less old school.

Ok, now I'm hungry. And a little jealous!
