easyJet passengers will only be able to check-in online from 30 April, it has announced.

The low-cost carrier’s airport desks will only open for baggage drop and with 80% of its check-in already done online the carrier hopes it will easily transfer others onto the service.

In a statement released to Travel Daily, easyJet said: “easyJet is always looking to make travel easier and more affordable. Online check in has proved popular with passengers, for whom it saves time queuing at the airport, and has helped easyJet keep its costs, and therefore its fares, low.

“80% of easyJet’s check in is already done online and easyJet is now trying to encourage the remainder to use online check in as well. Accordingly, easyJet has launched a passenger information campaign to demonstrate how easy and quicker it is to check in online. From 30 April easyJet’s check in desks will become bag drop desks.”

Makes one wonder about the 20% of easyJet's customers that don't check-in online, if they're capable by themselves to do online check-in. [i.e. some senior citizens, and/or individuals that can't/don't have easy access to computers with internet]

One would think they'd go the route of having self-service kiosks at the airport and charge a fee to use them, rather than alienate a certain demographic.

Obviously easyJet feels this is a worthy gamble.

Undoubtedly an additional labour savings/cost cutting measure beyond online check-in.

This measure isn't really my cup of tea. It alienates IMHO. :(

Not sure how some older folks would embrace this.
