Always like to see another way to earn, but 25% on discount Y won't make me jump for joy.
I was thinking the same! Of course, airberlin flights can be pretty cheap at times...
I'm more interested in the points on the map AB will add for redemption.
Here's a few fun ones:
Good point! It seems like far too few carriers serve Iceland!
Iceland is high on my list, and as far as I can remember off the top of my head, no OW airlines currently serve it. AY has a code share on Icelandair from HEL but don't think that's available for redepmtion.
I know when I've looked from the UK, Icelandair was my only real option...of course, I debated going via JFK on DL, but ticket prices were kind of crazy. Hopefully, airberlin will offer something reasonably priced!
Apparently AB has flights to KEF from TXL, DUS, HAM, MUC, STR, and seasonally on NIKI from VIE.
I'd think it'd benefit the OW carriers, particularly BA (and AA, of course), to codeshare on connections to these flights..assuming flights from the UK match up with departure times to KEF. I know there are already AB flight numbers on some BA operated flights out of LHR and I'm looking forward to seeing how this relationship develops. AB flying out of STN may help too since there are not really any OW options out of STN...an airport I do try to avoid.
Is there somewhere on their website that one can see all the destinations that Air Berlin serves? Not that map...but a list, or something? I could very well be overlooking the obvious.
Also, has anyone here flown them before?
It's not directly from AB but this is a list: LIST. Seems fairly up to date.
Is this RDM only so far?
Is there any way to check online for redemption availability?
Not on AA. Also, I tried to book a flight in J from North America to DUS (AA milesaaver "u" booking code and avail from now through Dec had little to no avail.
RDM only for now, there is no column for EQM earning yet. Should be added once AB officially joins OW.
Not that I know of off the top of my head....
Frustrating but not odd at all, there is no partner availability on AA.com for any partner, not just AB. Since AA doesn't fly to DUS on their own metal, you'll have to call to book that award.
Keep in mind that AB sells one-way paid tickets at decent price levels (on AA, the lack of a round trip return makes a one-way paid ticket very expensive).
Thumbs up. Any time an airline actually ENHANCES rather than "enhances" their service, I'm happy.
I believe you can check Air Berlin availability by signing up for their program.
I would always connect in HKG to get to HKT on KA if flying J/F however.
And while AA.com says that awards to/from Iraq are not allowed, I flew on an AA award AMM-EBL on RJ this summer when r/t in Y was over $1000 for a less than two hour flight!
But since they aren't OW yet does the availability in their system match what is made available to AA?
KA is great but HKT is a popular destination so I'm sure many will welcome another option to redeem.
I wonder if AB can be used to Iraq since the language on the RJ redemptions isn't printed on AB's page? But since it seems RJ redemptions are happening anyway..... lol
