Have you been reading the reports about a particularly dangerous outbreak of E Coli in fresh vegetables, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers in Germany and other EU countries? Just wondering if any of our MP members are taking precautions while in the affected areas? If so, what precautions?

Would this news stop you from eating vegetables?

Gives me a perfect excuse not to eat them :)

But seriously, I try to avoid vegetables from Germany these days, but I think the risk is very very low, especially with all the attention it is getting in this area at the moment.
Do as you would when traveling in Africa - only eat cooked vegetables, if you want to be safe.

I'm a little surprised this outbreak hasn't been corralled yet - I leave in 8 days for London & Frankfurt so purchased trip insurance in case I end up with an unexpected weight-loss plan while there.

One more comment, is terrorism suspected as the source of this? It seems unusual that the source of the contamination would elude scientists for so long unless this is a deliberate act. Anyway, just a thought.

There has been speculation on some Internet forums, but I don't think there's been any official "speculation" in this direction.

I happened to be in Germany a couple weeks ago when it started. Still ate salad :)

I don't think any officials have given that a single thought, except for maybe US officials?
We are not accustomed to think terrorism when something bad happen on this side of the pond :)

Although the oubreak appears to be slowing down, this is worrisome, particularly as the death toll has climbed to 19 and many are hospitalized with kidney failure. At least 8 drugs have already been shown to be ineffective, thusfar. It takes time to track these things down. Hopefully matters will improve quickly and well soon know the underlying source..

The source of the outbreaks had been found, right?

From what I can tell, no.. the e. coli source has yet to be confirmed.. there is rampant skepticism..

    E. Coli Not Found in Initial Testing of Sprouts - http://nyti.ms/mAC8Rz

    Hopefully soon, we'll know..

Meanwhile, be aware that a fear of e. coli is also dangerous, much like the bacteria itself!

    Be well everyone! :)

Yea, we don't hear much about it since they found out it was bean sprouts that caused it.
