This was ship 3902, the third aircraft delivered on 20 November 2012.

ETA: Someone else is reporting that N29602 was delivered on 31 October so not the 3rd. I need to get more details there.

ETA2: I'm pretty sure that guy got it wrong.

I've been listening to the LiveATC and the pilot confirms at one point that it is an electrical fault. At least that's what they said to the controllers.

    Bummer

I'm scheduled IAH to LAX on Thursday. I'm sure you guys know of a way I can determine if this is my aircraft?

It's ship #3902, so you should be able to check flight status on the mobile site and verify.

The FA call button and the PSU light are both wired into the IFE. So it appears on face that there is more going on with the IFE then just a simple entertainment system.

This sort of setup has been in the design of IFE systems for many years now. Not a new thing.

Whats the usual subin aircraft? I got a flight planned, wondering if I should look at alternative bump options.

MSY ATC recording has pilot indicating fire crew should check from begin wing to 3rd door. From a very quick listen, I think he said that is where a lot of the high load wires are, but it's getting late in Europe already so apologize if I misheard.

What do you think happens when a carbon fiber composite heats up too much?

Which would indicate an overload on the wires and a possible fire.

While the design may not be new, I found my IFE on my UA dreamliner flight to be especially finicky. It froze numerous times requiring the FA to reset it. And I have flown many times on pmCO 772s and 752s with their similar systems, so this really seemed to be specific to the 787. I spent the flight hoping the rest of the electrical systems were not so temperamental.
