    Hi all

So this is a 'new site' using 'new technologies'... It won't face the same restrictions which are implicit in the platforms used by certain other unnamed sites?

OK - so for me one of the biggest issues is 'double-posting' or the ability to have a particular thread appear in multiple 'categories'

A thread comparing SPG and Marriott hotels in a certain city might well be applicable to both the SPG and the Marriott Fora for example.

Similarly a great priced fare on AA might be of interest to readers of both AA and 'deals' fora.

Is there any new features to allow use of 'linking' or similar technologies here, or are we still resticted by the conventions (and the related netiquette) developed for BBS systems on non-multitasking OS'es 20+ years ago?

Just wondering/trying to initiate a conversation on the topic of the desirability or otherwise of cross-posting on this site :)

This would be wonderful to have cross thread posting!

The origin of the web was based on hyperlinking. We should be using that in a myriad of ways, and your suggestion is a good one.

Oh man, I was going to rely on the double-posting to escort me into Platinum land ;). Plus, I often relied on the *wood crew to provide me with material to make me sounds smart in the Marriott forum. Cross threading would literally end my reign of amazingness. This new fangled technology will doom us all.

You could always try to be liked instead.

Concur. There are many occasions when a post would hit/touch upon a variety of interests/fora...

We can embed graphics, we can embed video, why not embed another thread?

I've spent my whole life trying to be liked and I've determined 2 things:
    1. I'm not likeable (except in the eyes of my mother and my fiancee)
    2. It's not my fault nobody likes me, it's their's!
So now I'm being beat by technology and witty, likeable people. Now I'm really sunk.

Seriously though, I think cross threading is an intersting idea as it will bring together parties with similar interests. On the other hand, the community characteristics that are inherent in the different forums often drive conversations on the exact same topic down totally different paths. It is part of the fun of reading the different forums. It will be interesting to see how this balance of shared and disparate knowledge plays out.

Thanks all for the feedback (I expected a tirade of 'that's not how we do it' replies ;-), maybe this place IS new and different from you-know-where?)

I'm not certain, but it appears to me that the ability for a given forum or wiki to include as an item within itself a 'placeholder' or link to the 'shared' thread (which could be anywhere, within any forum) would suffice.

This would be analagous to 'moving' threads from forum to forum but instead an authorised person (perhaps a mod or someone with sufficient status?) could 'include' a thread from elsewhere into a particular forum?

Again- just thinking aloud (and BTW, on the topic of my thread, should this perhaps be linked in the "Beta Feedback" forum?)

I've never understood why cross-posting is such a taboo. For example, a thread about using US miles to redeem on SQ and OZ, but wanting to get the best possible seats could fit into any of those forums but US people will know about the miles and rules, SQ and OZ people will know which planes are best, etc.

I think it creates more work for the Morlocks/Voldemorticians/Borg.

Cross Posting should be possible...but there has to be a limit otherwise someone will cross post in all categories. You should be able to link it to two-four different categories. Otherwise, it will be insane.
