As a serial entrepreneur and dotcom millionaire, Neil Patel can afford to be picky about his choice of luxury residence.

But instead of a country mansion, penthouse apartment or gated community in the suburbs, the founder of internet start-ups KISSmetrics and Crazy Egg has set up home in a location he says best suits his hectic work schedule -- the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Seattle.

"I bought a place in a hotel because its convenient for me," says the 27-year-old, who often finds himself working more than 70 hours a week.

"I don't know how to cook or clean and I make more money if I focus on work rather than on the other stuff in life. Staying in a hotel where all these things are provided enables me to do that," he adds.

Agreed. Now the only remaining question is "How many upgrades do you receive with a giraffe?".

This is not news. This hotel also has condos; he bought one of the condos.

There are hundreds of hotel/condo joint developments. The condo owners get access to the hotels in those developments.

Worst of all, he doesn't earn any points. ;)

If he simply rented a room or suite at the hotel, that would be a little more novel.

So he actually bought a hotel room that comes with all the hotel services, or simply a regular condo attached to the hotel property?

Makes sense. I'd probably do this if I had the money. (Although probably not if I had kids.)

There was a guy who lived in one of the suites at the doubletree San Jose. He drove a corvette.

I know a guy who, after the dot com melt-down and the subsequent reduction in hotel occupancy rates, gave up his apartment and just pricelined extended stay hotels for weeks. I think he moved around the Bay Area for about a year based on what was available for cheap. No points either.

I would prefer to have a "real" home with a live in housekeeper that cooks and cleans. Don't think the hotel could be offering too much more...

    "
Although situated on a different floor from the hotel's short-term guests, Patel still has access to all the amenities and services provided to the regular guests."

If I had that kind of money, I'd live at the Four Seasons Seattle Residence instead...

I guess that guy doesn't have to worry about having enough nights to make Diamond.

He does because he doesn't earn nights/stays/points since he's living in a residence area of the hotel. Many other hotels do something like this such as the Four Seasons Residence, Ritz-Carlton Residence, and St. Regis Residence. People who live at those other Residences don't get status nights/points either...

If I was shelling out that kind of money, I would sure want some kind of status/points. Though on second thought, if I had that kind of money, maybe I wouldn't care about points or status.

If you really cared about status nights/points you can most likely contact a specific property and do an annual contract with them.

There are also people who live at Aman hotels.... I guess it all depends on what you want. Agree with other OPs that the Four Seasons Residences would be a nicer place to live- however I guess it really depends also on what the strata/monthly maintenance fees are which could make quite a difference- I remember a few years ago looking at a place in Manhattan and being floored when it was explained that monthly maintenance fees were $6000.

Plus with a house, not only would you have room for your giraffes in the garden, you will not need to worry about a no-pets-allowed policy! ;-)

Pat and her dog still live at the SFO Hyatt Regency as far as I know. Been there for years. She's a nice lady.

I stayed at the W Condos in FLL a few months back. It provided full access to all the amenities for the regular hotel, including room service, housekeeping and valet.

Was a stunning apartment too. Somewhere i'd happily want to live!
