AN air bridge has reportedly collapsed at Hong Kong's airport ripping the door from a Cathay Pacific plane and injuring at least one person.

The L2 air bridge at Gate 71 collapsed just after boarding, injuring the bridge operator.

Reports say Cathay Pacific Flight 532, an Airbus A330, was starting to push back when the bridge collapsed and fell to the ground. The falling bridge ripped the door off of the jet.

"According to Flyer talk, the Cathay flight has been delayed until tomorrow."

They're going to duck-tape it back in place by then? :D

I am not sure I understand the sequence of events. The plane started pushing back, the bridge collapsed, and it ripped off the (closed?) door? I assume the door was closed when the plane started moving...

Yeah, it's a bit confusing. It would seem the only way the door could rip off would be while open and attached to the jetway.

Seems like it would have to be the Bridge was pulling back and fell in order to rip off the door.

The bridge isn't pulled until the door is closed because the gate agent closes the door, making it too flush with the plane to be ripped off:confused: I say neither was moving and the bridge collapsed while the door was still open.

Whatever the circumstances, a bit frightening...never even imagined door being ripped off, either while boarding or takeoff: yikes!

I wouldn't be surprised if our justified speculation was due to some naive reporter's lack of familiarity with airline operations as so many such reports are written by non-aviation folks who get it wrong time & time again. Sigh.

"JALPak wrote on Flyer talk, an online pilot forum." Many on FT may be armchair pilots.... ;)
