    I just spent my first summer weekend in Maine and I’m filled with regret that it took me this long to see the splendor of New England during August. Wow. What an absolutely gorgeous place to be when the weather is just right. I grew up in the Midwest and always appreciated the rare time when the snow wasn’t falling and the summer humidity wasn’t crushing you. I think Mainers feel the same way. This past weekend was nearly perfect and in between enjoying the scenery of Portland, ME, I also happened to squeeze in a few meals. Since my girlfriend happens to be America’s foremost donut lover, we spent some quality time at Holy Donuts where Maine-style potato donuts are en vogue. Since I can’t go somewhere without trying the local specialties, we also had quite a few lobster rolls and crab rolls.
