I want to get the CSP card for the first time but before I do, I wanted to see if the card is ever offered with a bonus higher than the 40k. Are there promotions during the year that ever happen?

I'm in no rush to pickup the card, and don't want to submit my application if, for example, in 2 months the bonus gets bumped up to 50k or something. Does the card have a history of promotions like that during the year?

    Thanks!

Yeah, haha, sorry about that, I should have written it out. Yes, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

The standard sign-up offer now is 40K points after $3K spending in 3 months. It used to be 50K, but they changed it a while ago.

It was 50K for well over a year, then moved down to 40K in the spring.

75K and 100K offers were targeted

No inside info but I am not expecting a return to 50k though of course they do the occasional targeted promotion for the card.

Pardon my ignorance (as I'm pretty new to this), but what exactly are "targeted promotions"? Thanks.

Targeted at a particular customer, perhaps with a code that only they can use. Eg you get an offer in the (e)mail that makes you in offer that hopefully is better than the generic one out there, but is only valid for the recipients of that offer.

Ah, thank you. That's what I assumed but I wasn't sure. Do the card companies just send out random offers and it's just the luck of the draw?

Using the Milepoint Dynamic Glossary, one can highlight / double click a term like 'CSP' and find a glossary definition in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

I know. But I believe yesterday CSP wasn't defined. Don't know if it is now as I am using the iOS app right now.

I would hope that they target customers (or people they want to become customers) based on some criteria other than a random number generator. I am not sure, though, that they are interested in disclosing their algorithms. I'd guess they use soft pulls and the data they gather from that to try to identify customers that they could entice to move spend over to their bank.

    It's a new definition, wasn't there yesterday.
