Does anyone have advice on buying miles from AA? Currently they are offering bonus miles for purchases of 20,000 miles or more. The max is purchase of 150,000 miles with 42,500 bonus miles kicked in for approximately $4475.

The bonuses are frequent such that doing so speculatively is a bad idea IMO. Unless you have a specific redemption in mind and know that the inventory is available "investing" in FF points is likely to be a less than satisfying endeavor.

Hi afabm, and welcome to InsideFlyer.

This isn't directly responsive to your question (and Wandering Aramean's answer to that is an excellent one), but if you're interested in accumulating AA miles have you looked into getting AA credit cards through Citi and Barclay's? Right now they offer 50,000 bonus miles for getting the card and charging a specified amount to the card in the first few months. Indeed, you can get cards from both Citi and from Barclay's (and both VISA and MasterCard from Citi) and get the 50,000 mile bonus for each.

If you're thinking of doing multiple card offers, it's best to do one at a time, and not apply for the next card until you've met the spending requirement for the earlier card.
