    Did I read it wrong?

Starting January 1, 2017, we’ll add Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) to our earning requirements. Qualify in 1 of 2 ways:

    • Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) + Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs)

    • Elite Qualifying Segments (EQSs) + Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs)

You read it right. In 2017 you'll need to spend a certain amount along with flying miles/segments. No announcement yet on whether AA will have a waiver if you spend on their co-branded credit cards.

I'll add that it doesn't matter where you live or what AA credit card spend you have. 100% non-negotiable. Not a problem for me, but I can see how many will struggle with this one.

One presumes this will not affect lifetime elites?
