Champions of the proposed south suburban airport say there’s still a market for an airline hub near Peotone even as the expansion of O’Hare International Airport continues and runway work nears in Gary.
Though it could take years for shovels to turn on the long-discussed Peotone effort, Will County Center for Economic Development President John Greuling said a south suburban airport could serve the region’s transportation needs decades from now. And he said no one has set out to build an idle runway.
“We will not build an airport unless we have users, flat out,” Greuling said.
