I have learned a good bit over the last couple of years about maximizing my points and miles and am lucky to be able to take advantage of cc bonuses and spending benefits. When I book complicated itineraries, however, I use an award booking service to help me to get the best flights and rooms with the fewest points/miles. I have 4 kids so I am usually looking to get as many tickets using miles as possible and to do so in bus class when we are flying overseas. A couple of years ago Gary Leff got us great lie flat seats on BA to London and Paris and more recently Ryan Lile (Savvy Traveler) found award seats for all of us to and from HI. I was very happy with both services and would gladly use either again. I have wondered, however, if award booking services might sort of speciialize in a couple of airlines and/or itineraries? For example, I notice that some of the Boarding Area experts often blog about award travel on a specific airline. My question involves a trip next summer to Africa (Tanzania) and are told that the most direct flights are on Delta/KLM. I have lots of Delta skypesos that I rarely use b/c they are such a pain. We are rapidly approaching the 11 months pre-departure date and I would like to start exploring our award vs. purchase options. Any thoughts or resources in the MP community?
