Well, a surprising development over at FT... but not really. DL faux glasnost has occurred several times in recent years. The apologists don't like to remember those events although they are easily found in the archive. Let's see.... In 2008, Jeff himself, before he began cowering from the social-media empowered masses, talked about "starting a conversation." We all see how that went. Heh! Like the "conversation" with beta-testers and the new DL.COM... "We're sorry. We can't show your upcoming trips right now. Please try again later." Etc. In 2009, SMI threw out a corporate salutation/invitation: "Let's talk about fake cheese!" And they did. But not a peep about the deceptive ticketing structure of DL.COM revising prices upward just prior to purchase, the obfuscating award booking tool, and especially not the 635k from PHL to FCO, not all of which was in J. Not that DL weren't active. Between 2010 and 2012 DL revised the SM program in numerous ways. Most often overnight, with outraged Medallion members only discovering the DL subterfuge the next day when talking with an agent about why task X was now impossible. Award ticket changes after T-72, yes, that showed communication integrity and skill. How about the doubling of intra-Asia award levels? The loss of the ability to upgrade on KL/AF W, then M, fares, elimination of multiple e-cert use, etc. I can't understand why those who shouted about those events now take an optimistic tone. Want more whipping from SM management? And why do they not post on MP? Well, over here, with sharks patrolling the lagoon, it's too dangerous for the species known as "DL Social Media Ambassadors." They know that defending the best in class program is an impossible assignment. Rightly so. It's reality. Someone on the DL board whose opinion I respect - a former DL apologist in fact - wrote this: "DL SM are not worth the bytes they take up on screen" This is the message that DL SM management needs to hear. Not fawning about a simple statement of presence, which has been made a number of times before. DL SM management need to earn customer trust back. It's a long way from here. That distance is about, hmmm, the 635,000 SM stretch from PHL to FCO. Not all of which was in J. Jeff Robbo Style... hmmm, substitute your choice lyrics into this: Social media mavens, PM me and let's get a script together for our own Gangnam parody.
