The catering truck ran out of gas while loading the rear galley. It could not be moved to the front of the plane to stock the first class meals. When the gas arrived, the truck could not raise the box and the galley cart had to be loaded via the jetway. Flight departed 30 minutes late, but arrived on-time.

Can I get any compensation for the cold meal? ;)

If, indeed, your food should have been at least warm and was cold, a kind note explaining your experience could net you extra miles. I received 5k miles from a partially operating IFE when I let Delta know they had a malfunctioning unit.

So if the truck ran out of gas while it was already at the rear galley...why didn't the people who were switching the carts just send the carts up and down the aisle(s)?

That was the second problem. When it ran out of gas it couldn't be moved from the aircraft or between galleys, but even what that was fixed, the lift stopped working.

I might be misinterpreting something here. When the truck was out of gas, was the lift up and at the galley or was it down? If it was down (and then the lift breaks) I understand the issue on that basis but if the lift was already up and there was loading/unloading taking the place I don't see any issue with sending carts up and down the aisle.

    Further details.

The truck was in the back loading the galley with passengers loading. Didn't see when it ran our gas if the lift was up or down. But, by the time I was able to see the truck out the window, the truck had gas, the lift was down and the stabilizing arms were dragging on the ground when the truck was backing up. It was explained to us by the pilot, the truck hydraulics were not working and they needed to use the jetway to load the front galley.

When the pilot first made the announcement, he said it was the first time in his over 20 years that the catering truck delayed the departure.

Ok so it sounds like the truck never got up there in the first place.

Yes, the truck was stuck behind the wing, preventing a push back. More importantly, the first class meals were not loaded on board! ;) Couldn't leave unless F was able to eat in-flight.

Gotcha. It's unfortunate that it happened but at least you arrived on time!
