After writing this in, I received 1000 SM. Plus the usual uproarious stuff... "DL apologizes for this delay which must have been a disappointment" etc. "Dear redtailshark, we look forward to welcoming you back on DL again soon"...muahaha!

There were two separate fonts clearly visible in the response text. The original response probably contained more SM but then when it went to the supe, they realized, aargh, this is Jeff's enemy, must cut comp SM.

With this sort of service, you should consider a different airline.

If he did that we wouldn't get to hear his insightful and constructive critiques of Delta though. I for one enjoy the constant critique and pointing out of errors by the illustrious, Jeff-known, red-tailed one. It's like watching a nonstop political attack ad... and if there is one thing this world needs more of (aside from Cialis and Viagra commercials) it is political attack ads.

I know it's challenging to some...but it's certainly possible to fly more than one airline. Sometimes, we have no choice (corp travel policy, only game in town etc.). Even I am condemned to DL from time to time.

And although it is indeed sport to compare the shortcomings of DL SM with political attack ads, the program failings are not regarded with such amusement when they happen to the DL faithful. Which they do quite often, because of the atrocious quality of SM service and product compared with a. the competition's products, and more radically and problematically, b. DL SM's own T&C. People complain about the level of comp that I describe above, for example.

It shows that BA and DL are locked in a tight battle for the true mantle of:

    *best in class*

You know I can totally picture this small army of redcoats (not the British variety, the DL variety) sitting in this Pentagon-esque war room monitoring everything you do and discussing these elaborate schemes to thwart you every chance you get, right? They probably have a siren that goes off every time you are waterboarded into booking a ticket on DL and then their big conference table flips over to display a map of the world with this tiny red-tailed plastic shark in your current location. Then redcoats all start moving planes around like the Nazis in The Last Crusade while muttering about how "Der Jeff-er" has declared war on the Shark boys...

I vote you try to lure Jeff into drinking from the wrong chalice, although I would miss your posts once you had declared ultimate victory and had nothing further to worry about from the evil incarnate that is Delta.

Many frequent flyers consider two to three hour delays part of the flying process and know to pad their schedules accordingly..... the only exception is when such a delay cascades into missed connection(s).

I'm surprised the OP was able to get anything out of Delta, though at a penny a mile, 1,000 miles is hardly worth the effort -- 10,000 might be.

Ah but no, DL are novices. The real monitoring system is in the revenue management nuclear strike basement at IAH. Yes there really is one. Down there... everything is quiet...and suddenly! Woop! Woop! Illegal ratio of fare paid to RDM/EQM! Exceedance factor of 3.0!! No, 4.5!! The CO YM throw away their Playboy/Playgirl mags and get to it. Jeff S won't be happy with them! But...it's too late, the honey badgers have found their prey!! They are so nasss-ty!! SFO-BOG for $150 in B! Nothing stops them!! They just won't stop booking it! Get them away! Zero out B, Y, M, R! They don't give a ^^^^! Nothing stops the FT honeybadgers! Hurry up and zero it out, F is all gone for the whole week thanks to the auto-upgrading Plat bandits!

Didn't you see CO manifesting their sense of humor with their flash ATH sale ex-EWR a few months ago? Loading $99 one-ways for one Friday night....at 3pm local on Friday. Scott was laughing his ass off. People couldn't get from their desks to EWR fast enough. What a frenzy....some FT members booking others and checking their buds in as they drove or cabbed through the tunnel in their quest. Those on the west coast attempting to concoct redeye itins to "connect" within 24 hrs. Mwahahaha!

You have to have a sense of humor about this.

I'd be happy to talk about this with Jeff R. But I'd do so in the knowledge he's going to give it to all the PM/DM gamers.

Understand, things are not simple. I book DL on odd occasions without duress - for example, I have a giant ten-segment fuel-dumped itin in March that involves the AF380 TATL at $44 per seg and averages 1600 miles per seg. OK, that's a real value. But here's the key - even without SM, that one was a good deal to get me where i need to go. If Star had offered comparable cost, I'd have taken them. DL offered an $85 each way PRG to NYC fare during early summer that could be tricked but even that wasn't worth it because Star had similar fares.

None of that means I think SM is anything except * best in class* And hey, you all know it too. I know there are reasons to stay with DL. BUt face it. SM is not one of them. Not now and not ever.

As for declaring ultimate victory, Jeff's apologists over on the FT board already achieved that :) The only thing is, now they have to deal with Jeff's rescissions and there's nobody to apologize to. Nobody for whom to whitewash the awfulness..... every day the nightmare of DeaLing with the DL award booking tool is excoriated by

I'm sitting on a bench by the UA luggage claim pit at BOS laughing at all this. I signed on to the Logan internet as King Honeybadger. Muahahaa! But biz calls, I have to get going in a moment.

This is great news. You are reaffirming that Delta has implemented state of the art Customer Relationship Management software that can do complex data mining and analysis so as to personalize responses and benefits. I doubt UA or AA could do that for you.

I don't think DL has dumb people managing their program or their IT. Far from it.

The consumer utility of their work, however, is more than questionable.

If they spent half as much effort delivering on their own published T&C in ways that made sense to customers (e.g. we know not all flights will have LOW availability...but, let's say, if your official award calendar shows GREEN for LOW for my route and dates, then IT SHOULD TICKET ME AN ITINERARY AT LOW). Nothing that's beyond the capacity of, say, US Airways or AS.

Has anyone been receiving Delta Vouchers for compensation lately or just Skymiles?

My SM account shows the miles posted today. Only 11 days after the event.

Although, yes, I do acknowledge that this is faster than CO.COM credits my BD sectors or even produces my TravelClub credits. I've had to write in five times over the past three months to get some itins dating back a year to credit. Each week I fly more itins that I then have to write in to request.... so there's an unending correspondence.

This is one of the few ways in which, well...you know.

For the sake of all the new people, I think you need to say it. I mean, what if they DON'T know? How would they be able to look forward to the closing "*best in class*" line without the constant... constant... constant... constant... constant..constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... constant... inclusion?

After all, if you don't drive the horse, then flog the horse, then beat the carcass of said horse, then pound upon the bones of said carcass of said horse, it cannot possibly be understood. See Letterman, Dave or Politician, Any.

As compensation for complaint, I have been getting Skymiles for a while now. I wish they were MQM though... it would make them considerably more valuable and force me to complain a lot more. :)

OK! OK! You are right. It's strange how people are disappointed when sharkspeak isn't punctuated by the normal valediction. Remember, it wasn't my phrase...it was used by Jeff R.

By popular acclaim.... in this respect, CO is *best in class.*

"Thank you for contacting the Continental Airlines Electronic Support Desk. I submitted your requests for travel bank credit with two exceptions. DZVVNP and DV7R2X had already been paid. Total submissions were 9. Please be aware it may take 7-9 days for the credit to appear. Regards,[SharkServiceRep@coair.com]"

[Note that nine - count 'em, nine, of these were acknowledged. Most things at CO - especially the award booking tool - work efficiently but for reasons I can't explain, this doesn't. On the upside: now some award itins registered Travel Bank credit too!]

Indeed. I always felt that the fact my UA and AA compensation responses were all in a single font was a certain sign of incompetence on their part. I'm jealous the OP gets such intimate handling by DL!
