I hit my upgrade DTW to LAS as a gold at the window, and am anxiously awaiting to see if the gf gets the bump as a silver this evening. There were seven V fares available last night, but now there are six, and the seat map has not changed. Is this common? Since I'm new to ExpertFlyer, I've never been able to see this occur. Does this happen often, or has someone on a diamond or plat on an award tik changed their flight for that day and just hasn't selected their seat, yet?

They may have sold a seat, someone switched flights, or something happened somewhere else to convince them they could sell another seat.

Availability can move around a bit. It can be useful to check both V and F with EF, rather than V only. This would give a better indicator of whether a seat was sold/taken or if DL just reduced V.

Then they probably just decided to hold back 1 more seat for sale and gate assignment.

Note that the upgrade algorithm seems to run almost continuously after the windows begin to open.

I find MSPeconomist is right. I have been upgraded outside the window as FO, GM, and as PM. Part of it just seems to depend on the route. On ATL - ELP as a PM I was once upgraded 7 days out. On other routes, also as a PM, I was upgraded at the gate.

i dunno, all i saw was that V went from 7 to 6, and F stayed at 8. seat map didn't change. it just seemed like they took a V fare away to try and collect another revenue fare.

regardless, she cleared at the window :)

V does not directly relate to F.

i'm aware, but comparing the two should still be needed in this case

Remember that sometimes DL will hold FC seats in anticipation of being oversold in coach.

i wasn't aware of that, thanks. didn't apply in this case, however, since practically every preferred seat in Y has yet to be assigned. there's still actually one V fare open.

i got us switched to Row 6 instead of 7 in case of an equipment change.

edit: now 2 V still available inside 24 hours
