Yesterday's (October 4, 2013) DL 295 747-400 nonstop service from ATL to NRT turned back over the Pacific and landed at ANC. Both delta.dumb and flightaware seem confused about this flight, but it now looks like they're leaving as DL 9856 in less than an hour, at 12:30 pm local time and will arrive into NRT about 21 hours late.

One would assume that this was a mechanical diversion rather than medical (unless the crew timed out) but does anyone know the details? AFAIK there's no sign that DL dispatched a rescue 747 to ANC, so presumably mechanics were able to fix the ailing aircraft (assuming that this was the issue).

Did anyone here see the big DL bird parked at ANC yesterday/today?
