I'm currently booked for The Hotel and Mandalay in August and with the new Hyatt Mlife partnership I had some ideas of how to make the most out of my trip.

On a side note I'm a bit of a gambler so I'm stoked about this partnership and my current reservation is comped so I assume it won't count for anything with Hyatt.

    Here we go...

In July I'm planning on applying for the Chase Hyatt card, before I do that I was going to enter Hyatt's Diamond Challenge which grants you 60 days as a Diamond member, and you get it for the year if you stay 12 nights in that time period. My understanding is that having Diamond status at the time of my Chase application will get my two free nights in a suite.

In addition, with the new MLife partnership I will be able to match diamond to MLife diamond as well (being a gambler and visiting vegas 2-3 times per year this is huge). I'm anticipating that even if my 60 days expires on my challenge my MLife will last a year (may or may not be the case, but we'll see).

My next thought was that for under $800 I can "stay" 12 nights at Exacalibur (MLife) and qualify for the challenge and maintain hyatt diamond.

The big question is can I "checkin" for my stay at Excalibur and simply roll out? I don't have the ability to actually stay 12 nights during that 60 days.

Also if you qualify for Hyatt Diamond is it only for remainder of year, rolling twelve months, or good through 2014?

Since it is the second half of the year, you should get it through 2014.

Lots of people "roll out". After 12 days, housekeeping might get suspicious that you didn't intend to stay checked in, but I don't think there's anything official that would keep it from counting.

Diamond trial will get you the two nights in suites.

I am also very happy with this new relationship. I really want the Diamond status with Hyatt next year. Especially after our last trip. I got the Hyatt card when we had our Hyatt Diamond trial going on earlier this year and the free suites we booked in Europe were amazing! At the time we got the trial I wasn't able to meet the 12 stays in 60 days... if I knew that this Mlife relationship was coming it would be a different story. I think your idea is a good one. I have 2 upcoming stays in Vegas and one is at an MGM property, the other is not. I think I may just book 3 nights while I am in Vegas at the Excalibur to get the stays even though we are staying at the Cosmopolitan.

I think the real question is... What do you/we value the Hyatt Diamond status at? Upgrades are amazing, free breakfast is awesome... so how much are we willing to spend in order to get it?

I read on one of the blogs that MGM properties won't count towards the challenge, does anyone have confirmation on this?

I stupidly started the Diamond trial on May 27--now my status will expire in 6 months. I live in vegas and need 3 more night so I went to the Excalibur--long line to check in so I do my standard :walk into the VIP room and act like I belong there, no line to check in, but the guy knows nothing about the Hyatt relationship. It took 2 more minutes for him to confirm it and I walked out the door with the room keys, paying an xtra $18 per day resort fee . I'll see shortly how everything posts and whether the trial was completed with those stays. The reason I question it is because I just got an email for 9000 Hyatt points for my next 3 stays, and the small print says that a stay does not count for that promo if it is at an Mlife property. Oh, well. Worst thing that could happen is I am out $140.
Does anyone have a strategy for getting my Diamond extended as if it had begun on june 1? It started may 27 with first stay after June 1.

Just wanted to point out that according to Hyatt's PR twitter account @HyattPR they said that stays at Mlife properties during a Diamond trial will NOT count towards diamond status... :( However... at least we have 12 months (Jan-Dec) to get the 25 stays in at cheap MGM properties for the normal Diamond Status. I really think that is something I will be able to do next year based on my current stay patterns and only being about 10 stays short this year (assuming my alternating Excalibur-Luxor-Excalibur) system works and they each count as a stay!

Anyone know how casino comped stays work for status? I assume they won't count. I don't pay for my stays in vegas so I really would be doing dummy stays. 12 nights is worth it, not sure if diamond is worth it for 25 though. Unless you can get the resort fees waived.

It especially sucks because when I called Hyatt Gold Passport they told m, after checking with supervisors, that it would count

I wonder if that's a temporary thing because the partnership is still ramping up.

I would assume they would (they just show up at stays, I'd be surprised if the IT was built to differentiate), but did also read they do not, I suspect we may have to wait and see what happens in actual practice...

i agree with the other comment that it would be kinda hard for them to have thought about this and already had IT toss out the MLife stays ONLY for those doing a challenge. possible, but not probable. the question is: does there need to be human intervention to 'complete' the challenge? ie: a human takes a look and signs off once the stay requirement is made. in that case, i could see that these agents would be directed to ignore the MLife nights.

So, to those Diamonds: when you hit the stay requirement, is everything automatic, or does a human get involved to verify???

In my experience it appeared automatic when my 12th night posted overnight the diamond status on my account was extended to feb 28th of the following year. It seemed too seamless to be human operated but then again considering Hyatt's crack IT team (I'm looking at you 5 outages yesterday and continual mobile probs for last 3 days) perhaps they do have to have someone "pulling the challenge lever" to make it seem automated :)

I just signed up for a Diamond challenge because my wife and I have a bunch of nights coming up in Augst and Sept. I'm also making a Vegas trip during that period. I might just book an extra excalibur room to hit the 12 nights early, and to see if it posts. It's an expensive test, probably 250-400 dollars, to get me the rest of the way to 12 nights, but for Diamond through Feb 2015, It might be worth it.

Per OP, any reason why we couldn't get the instant M Life Platinum match from this during the challenge period? What would happen if we then don't get the 12 nights during the challenge?

I can confirm that as Diamond via a status challenge, I got Mlife platinum without having my Hyatt card with me. My MGM card has as a date stamp sayings its good through Sep 2014.

I wasn't sure how long the status match is good for. Also I'm more interested in actually qualifying the challenge and keeping hyatt diamond for a year and a half. I didn't want to blow my one challenge unless it's a sure thing.

I know normally status challenges are a one time thing - are we confirmed that that's the case w Hyatt? Any strategies for cheap Hyatt hotels to meet the challenge?

I know just a couple folks who have said they've been through 2 challenges with Hyatt. I think Hyatt's philosophy on this has changed just in the last few years. I'm guessing it's YMMV with a slightly more likely yes answer than other loyalty programs.

Did you already get the actual Mlife Platinum card?

Yes. The Mlife desk at any property will give you the actual card.

Next level: Assuming we can get the MLife Plat card, can we status match to Harrah's/Trump?

I'm honestly shocked this wasn't mentioned sooner. Interesting.
