DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – For most of us, a nice night out on the town might cost a $100 or so. But how does $7,000 on dinner sound? And what if a majority of that tab was for booze?

The dinner referenced above took place in Seoul, South Korea. A Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board member and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings picked out the wine for a party of eight. His choice? Three bottles of Chateau Haut-Brion, a French red wine, each costing more than $1,500.

CBS 11 News Investigative Reporter Mireya Villarreal began looking into DFW Airport’s travel and spending after several sources reached out.

In 2012 airport executives and board members spent $2.2 million flying around the world, promoting the airport. Airport representatives explain the money is used to support air service development, maintain relationships with airlines and seek out new relationships with airports, airlines and decision makers who determine what air routes stay and will come to DFW.

The goal of the trip and dinner was getting Korean Air to increase their ICN-DFW frequencies from 5x to 7x weekly. As the last sentence of the article reveals, that happened. They might well have done that anyway, but it's suggestive this wasn't entirely crazy. I do think it's funny that the Mayor says he only ordered the wine because he 'heard that Chateau Haut-Brion was good' was that he made a currency conversion error! (Too bad neither AA nor KE has done that in loading their DFW-ICN fares!).

It's pretty hard to spend that amount (even for 8 people) without most of it being for booze :D

Joel Robuchon in LAS would cost 5k for 8 people not including alcohol. So it isn't unheard of.

Well, there are a handful or more of the world's top rests where the food portion could easily be $500-$600 per person, then booze and tip...

I said hard, not impossible ;) Some of the most expensive resto's seem to top out at around $500/pp, but of course a bit of caviar, truffles, kobe beef as extras can all add up. Then there are the 1k omelets and the 1k burgers...... but these are mostly gimmicks.

And how can Milepointers get Mayor Rawlings to invite them join him for dinner the next time he does this? ;)
