New designs for Kuwait International Airport have been released by Foster+Partners.

The airport will initially accommodate 13 million passengers per year, with flexibility to increase to 25 million, and ultimately 50 million with further development.

The terminal comprises three symmetrical wings of departure gates and each façade spans 1.2kms and all extend from a dramatic 25-metre-high central space.

The design looks nice, but that huge space will be expensive to keep cool.

A masterpiece indeed, the energy bills could add up indeed, especially keeping the new airport cool, back to the design, ingeniously beautiful!

Very striking and futuristic-looking design. The roof design sort of reminds me of ICN's traffic center.

Is the roof glass or solar panels?

And do they think the world needs another major hub in the middle east? (they presumably don't count on 50 million travelers from visits to Kuwait alone)

The cost to operate the facility should have been considered during the design phase. Knowing Foster & Partners work (or what I recall from several years back) they've worked through this and the bill won't be as bad as we may think.
