Promotional miles associated with this offer will be posted to the account of the traveling AAdvantage member within 6-8 weeks after qualifying activity posts to your account. Promotion does not apply to travel on mileage award tickets or fares that are ineligible for AAdvantage mileage accrual. Grrrr ... all we Florida residents (who are constantly bombarded with entreaties by the LCCs) have gotten is a lousy premium overseas fare-only thing. (And that's not to mention the many residents of other states who have no DEQM offers whatsoever).

I'm willing to bet your ticket was the trigger for AA sending the email, so I thank you as an ORD based flyer ;)

Understandable frustration but really DEQM lately for AA has been to encourage specific flying behavior, i.e. NOT to fly Virgin's new routes in this case. From the sound of things, the economy is getting better and the planes are full. AA doesn't really need to offer system wide DEQM in the current climate. If we had another downturn, I'd be willing to bet they'd entertain loosening or broadening the scope. For now, it looks like targeted DEQM is the norm.... :(

Damn targeted to residents crap. Don't they know how much extra air fare they sold earlier in the year with Dallas?

I bet AA asked itself if those Dallas tickets would have been sold to someone whether or not they were taking advantage of the DEQM and said "Yes, they would." As I mentioned above, with the economic upswing and the reducted capacity, I don't think AA sees itself struggling to fill seats lately. If they were, those restrictions might disappear. For now.... :(

Good point, DD, but I guess I am surprised at the routes AA has selected for their DEQM/DM offerings. LAX/DFW is a significant route for AA, not much competition.

It was offered in the time period that Virgin America started up their new Dallas service, so there isn't much competition, but AA was still fighting. Same with the ORD-LAX/SFO. Virgin starts service this month on both routes.

As long as you register, you can still make use of this. The offer says to register before travel, not before booking. So doesnt matter when you booked, it matters when you fly.

Quick call to the platinum desk confirmed this.

From the email: Register for this special offer prior to travel to qualify, by selecting the red "REGISTER" button below.

Does not say prior to purchase. Someone on the other site say they have confirmed prior purchase is not necessary.

The T&C has this line though:

"Reservation must be booked on or after May 6, 2011, to be eligible"

If it actually is open to previous reservations that'll make a lot of people very happy! I'll take the T&C over the email wording though. Did this person confirm with AA CS?

Exactly, and that's what I'm basing my "Murphy's Law / Tough Luck" on. Book on or after today (May 6, 2011).

Maybe what they need is DEQM/DRDM for flights to Japan

I'd be on that so fast. November please, I've already got plans to be in NRT and KIX!

Excellent idea! I would imagine their seat count to NRT is quite low these days and this could boost both their revenue and provide an influx of $$ to Japan!

I called PLT CS and they said it would take reservations made prior to May 6th. YMMV

Calling is like speaking to Duffman. They say a lot of things. I'd get that in writing if you want to hold up against the T&C with the offer.

Someone should let AA know that their T&C and CS reps aren't matching up then.... lol

EDITED TO ADD: Just out of curiousity I called the EXP Desk and asked them about previous bookings. Their response: absolutely not, the T&C are very clear. YMMV indeed!
