    Just received this email:

We want to thank you for your recent flight on Delta. We know that you have a small and decreasing choice of carriers when you fly and appreciate your business.

We occasionally hear from our customers that overcrowding can be an issue on our planes, resulting in discomfort to our passengers and a lack of room for carry-on baggage. To maintain the level of service that our customers expect, we are implementing the following changes:
    • Effective immediately access to our aircraft will be restricted to passengers traveling on a first class or business class itinerary.
    • As a special concession to our valued elite Skymiles members (Platinum Medallion and above), those members will be able to access the aircraft by purchasing an Economy Comfort fare.
    • Economy class passengers will still have access to check-in counters and the gate area.
    • Economy class passengers will still be able to check bags (subject to the existing checked baggage fees) but the bag will be delivered to the baggage claim area in the departure airport.
We also remind our Skymiles members that it is Delta's policy to award Skymiles only for segments actually flown.

We're sure you will be pleased with this latest enhancement to our service, and look forward to seeing those of you with business or first class itineraries on a future flight.

So, how are the economy passengers getting to their destination? They obviously meant boarding order, but it sure doesn't read like that. :D

I wouldn't put it past them to charge a friend $29 extra to sit next to me tho!

Pretty sure that quite a few airlines already do this (that is, charge for seat selection).

Is this from the Onion. Economy class baggage will be checked in but delivered to the Baggage Claim at the DEPARTURE airport????

I think it was the OP's own original content creation.

But it does probably share a lot with the onion since it's clearly a parody of the recent SkyClub announcements.

I wouldn't be so sure that it's a parody. After all the other recent enhancements, this is a logical next step.

Surely sir (or madam) you are not accusing me of anything less than total scrupulousness in my reportage?

Screwpulls notwithstanding, you may have inadvertently omitted the part about coach class passengers having to load all the baggage on and off the plane, clean the plane before departure and upon arrival, and be ready to wash all windows (airplane and computer) at all times. ;)

Nope, I'm confident you had three independent sources. ;)

Screwpulls? As if DL served wine other than screw-tops, or boxes.

Now who's making things up? ;)

Pouring the leftovers out other people's glasses doesn't count?
