Here are the highlights of this story:
    * A Delta passenger tries to check in to a SEA-JFK flight with 7 bags, and gets a whopping baggage fee.
    * He abandons 4 bags in SEA to avoid paying $1400.
    * TSA sends in their Bomb Disposal Unit.
    * Randy Petersen offers written comments about Delta (although a Delta spokesman was also available).
    Read the complete story here.

At the very least this guy should have gotten a ticket for littering.

    Total and absolute moron IMO.

I have posted this story before......but I watched a pax in YEG try to check in a small motorcycle. I was late for my flight so I had to clear security and did not see the conclusion of the discussion.
"You can't check in a motorcycle as baggage"
    "Why not ? ..........

And I thought the 40+ sets of golf clubs we had to load when the PGA Tour came through were a pain in the ass...

Perhaps an IQ test should be required before being allowed to buy plane tickets.

True, but that's like saying "Barack Obama, former Senator from Illinois" :)

" A report published in May by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics found that U.S. airlines collected nearly $3.5 billion in baggage fees from passengers in 2012, up from $3.48 billion in 2011."

Only an extra 20 million? Somebody is going to get fired for that...

Well they transposed two numbers, as DL 1452 seems to run ABQ to ATL every day. My guess is that it was the red-eye 1542, with an 11:30pm departure.

That makes me feel a little better about the other concern I had, where the article said the 4 pieces of luggage had been abandoned near the check-in counter until after 1am.

Still, that seems like a pretty easy way for some neafarious person to come along and make a scene about the baggage fees and leave four (pressumably large) pieces of luggage near a public area. Even if it's just for a couple of hours, some bad juju can certainly come from that -- although I'm sure that the airport wasn't terribly crowded at that time.

Taking the contra position, I applaud this guy. If your stuff is not worth paying $1400 to ship then just leave it at the counter and say hasta la vista. Those baggage fees are absurd and not easy to calculate where you've got 3 different fees for each one. I am assuming the guy was moving cross-country - who actually travels with 7 checked bags? Heck if they were actually important better to buy another round trip ticket and check them on your next flight (plus more EQM ;) )

Milepoint is a classier joint, so no need to bring it up in that context. ;)
