Some may already know, Delta only releases 1 KE business Trans-Pacfic flights and filter out everything else.

Now, they are doing same thing for China Eastern cross ocean flight too.

Basically, regardless number of business seat they release to their partners, you can only find 1 from Delta.

The only way to get around this is to find an agent who is willing to do "long sale" for you, but good luck on finding one.

In our history of booking reward tickets, the agents have always had to request seats from the airline. I don't know if this is because my g/f is a Diamond / whatever the highest tier was or whether it was just pure luck. However, this was the case even when booking coach seats and not just business.

Diff agent has diff way of working, different partner has different way of booking, before MU join skyteam, "long sale" was the only way of booking, now Delta just develop a system same for KE to filter out MU seats

Also, you are right, agents have always to request for SOME partners, but some airlines Delta can access their inventory or develop a system to access "their inventory", then when they see the seat, they will book for you, but the actual booking procedure is "long sale"

Also, very few agent still does the job the old way, book every seats with "long sale" except DL/AF/KL

Are there blackout dates for China Eastern awards like for KE? If so, do we know what dates are excluded?

Here's what was showing as of June for MU blackout dates:

    10SEP 11 THROUGH 11SEP 11
    ON 13SEP 11
    ON 15SEP 11
    ON 26SEP 11
    29SEP 11 THROUGH 04OCT 11
    06OCT 11 THROUGH 08OCT 11

I just pulled up the international fare rules again to confirm, and that's all that's there for MU now, too. KE and CI blackout dates for 2012 (into January 2013) are entered already, so it appears that MU blackout dates might be a thing of the past.

For the main subject of the thread, do we know that DL is doing something to make these seats show up as only one available, or could the partners be doing it? For instance, if one calls up with FlyingBlue miles, are they seeing more than one seat on a flight where DL is claiming only one is available?

You could check some other partner's website if one can book MU award tickets on line using that program's FF miles.

So could you ask a DL agent to request a second seat if you saw multiple seats open via AF or something? How long till the operating carrier comes back?
