With today's announcement of sleep kits and ice cream on longhaul Economy flights, Delta has eliminated the longhaul Economy Class product gap with its foreign rivals. I'm a longtime loyal UACO flyer, but I must give credit where it is due.

    Where's United?

Actually I was on UA in E+ AMS IAH a week ago and about mid fight everyone in E was served a decent cup of ice cream, it was quite nice.

I'm impressed with DL's attempt to make everyone comfortable. I just might forego the miles redemption for J next time I do a TATL and try it out in Y+.

    Come join me (us)...
I have only flown up front for domestic US flights and those were complimentary upgrades.
You just might discover that you true inner love after all.
Its so lonely up front right. :D
And the best part, if you take exit row seats like me for the extra leg room, you know you are important and you can make a difference.
I did observe on recent flights, the flight crew make lots of efforts to check if anyone has spoken to us on our responsibilities.
On a single flight, I can be approached 2-3 times easily for this.

UA would probably be ninth in a five-horse race, at the rate they're cutting back. :(

Didn't they just cut services in Y on 4/1?

What was there to cut? Did they cut the "chicken" out of the mystery meal?

That's the metric from which UA concludes that they are doing everything right already.

In answer to the headline question, doesn't UA run from competition?

I can't believe you're doing this just for the ice cream. What happens if they only serve chocolate ice cream in J and you're stuck with the plain old flavorless vanella in Y+ ? Is that truly worth giving up your J seat and almost warmed nuts and bubbly along with the lie flat comfort of a comforter (didn't mean that cute FA here), and a larger napkin on your meal tray?

I think you're slipping in your old age~!

They cut the meal out of the mystery meal. You still have the mystery though ;).

Busy using 2 billion in cost cuts to help make a pizza so cheap nobody wants to eat it. ;)

I remember on Flyertalk when a couple of people used the cheeseburger CO served in Y as a basis they flew CO over UA.

Well, not everyone has "good taste" when it comes to food.

I just flew on DL in Economy to EZE and was blown away by the new meal offerings as well. It was BusinessFirst quality albeit a smaller portion but it's sad when DL has better catering and offerings over United at similar prices.

It doesn't count because it was Jeff Smizek who wrote that.

I recently did a status match from UA to Delta. The improvement in quality is considerable, so now I fly Delta whenever possible unless their fares are not competitive. Delta offers far superior service compared to United. No comparison.

Quoted for truth. Had lunch on MSP-IAH on DL. There were two choices on an ERJ flight a sub sandwich or pasta salad. On UA you get the PM carb box.

IMHO UA is out of touch with reality and isn't competitive with their product offerings on the United Express brand.
