Read this first on LoyaltyLobby (http://loyaltylobby.com/2014/03/11/...hip-in-trouble-delta-cancels-many-codeshares/) that Delta is dropping the following codeshares with Alaska.

I am actually taking one of these flights on March 22 (DL7487)

Very likely my subsequent flights through Seattle will no longer be be operated by Alaska.

    eff 05JUN14
    Seattle – Las Vegas
    Seattle – Los Angeles
    Seattle – San Diego
    Seattle – San Francisco
    Seattle – San Jose CA
    Seattle – Vancouver

    eff 01JUL14
    Seattle – Anchorage
    Seattle – Houston

    eff 20DEC14
    Seattle – Phoenix

They are only dropping the ones they replaced with DL metal. Makes sense.

The relationship will end one way or another.

DLs build up continues with the probable addition of sea-iah based on the end of code sharing on that route and this sky mag cover doesn't hide their intention either:

It's going to take a lot of new flights for AA to make a "closer alliance" with AS work.

Heading east out of GEG, I have choices on DL to connect through MSP or SLC. And even a once a day ATL starting this year.

AA doesn't even serve GEG --- and US does, but who wants to connect in PHX to go east?

With so much bad news coming out of Delta airlines, I'm curious to see how much it will affect their business.

If they end up making more money out of all these changes.

I'm not sure that any of the news is unambiguously "bad" with the exception of some of the skymiles restructuring.

As long as I can credit DL flights to AS by May I don't care what they do.

Hate to do this to Alaska but I had to change my flight to an earlier one (DL 4597) which is operated by SKYWEST AIRLINES.
Likely there will be no more Alaska flights for me

I'm sitting on 22.3k at the moment so I do need to figure out how I can get 3k on the cheap to redeem for an Award.

Muahaha! Exactly, I knew you hadn't tried yet and this proves it. Please, report back when you accumulate what you perceive as the needed 3k and attempt redemption.

I did book a 25k Low Award on AS from ATL-SEA-KTN-SIT-JNU-PSG-WRG-KTN-SEA-ATL in January though. ;)

It's not nearly that bad, overall. Challenging and best-in-class, sure. Impossible? Only in some cases.
See - @DIG/R_1K was able to find a nice, direct routing on a Skymiles partner (although such an award does not look to be valid on DL...)

Honestly I have not had onerous issues with redeeming skymiles, and my last 3 awards booked have all included destinations not served in any remotely convenient way via Star and/or oneworld carriers (in some cases with no service at all).

As an award? Were some of the connections "direct" flights - 9 segments is verboten as far as I know.

It was an Award but AS has what is known as the Milk Run flights up in Alaska.

One flight number for SEA-KTN-SIT-JNU and another direct flight number for JNU-PSG-WRG-KTN-SEA so to DL it's four segments. :D
