I'm looking to cash in my skymiles for a trip to Europe.
    Here is my idea.

    JFK to FCO (Rome)
    ATH (Athens) to JFK

Since Delta allows 1 stopover, I wanted to know where I should use it? Any ideas? I am open to using the stopover on the outgoing/return flights. Thanks for your input.

    Business class or economy?

Off the top of my head, potential stopover locations are CDG, LHR, AMS, and MXP/LIN. Any of them would be good, and if you've never been to any of them, I might just let availability of seats lead the way.

Well, as a Londoner, I guess I should say LONDON! (Big benefit to London is that a lot of the great museums are free.) :D

The great thing about the OP originating/terminating at JFK is that AF's availability is decent there. Finding the DL domestic segments is a big part of the problem.

Going though London will probably increase your fees and taxes substantially, especially for business class.

How are you getting between Italy and Greece? You could do JFK-FCO (DL nonstop or AF connection through CDG, with up to 24 hours in Paris for free) stopover FCO-ATH (AZ) destination ATH-JFK

Only if doing LHR-US, since it's a departure tax. LHR-EU taxes are a fraction of going long-haul out of the UK, especially if you're willing to take Y for the intra-European segments.

I am getting economy. Those suggestions sound nice. Delta has direct flights for JFK->FCO and ATH->JFK.

I was gong to use trains and ferries to travel between cities and from Italy to Greece.

That sounds painful, especially since a nonstop AZ flight from FCO or MXP (maybe others such as NAP too, I'm not sure of AZ's routes, but you could fly from anywhere in Italy to FCO/MXP and connect to ATH, still all for free if you find low availability) to ATH can be added to your ticket for free.

I did the same cities before booking JFK-ATH using DL direct flight JFK-FCO as a stopover, then connecting to ATH on Alitalia. Return flight was DL direct ATH-JFK.
