We all know DL struggles with IT. Tonight's experience was the strangest I've had.

    Let's start with these facts:
    1) I'm willing to buy first class tickets for an itinerary.
    2) The flights I want are all showing F6 or better on ExpertFlyer. (The DL rep confirms seeing the same segment-by-segment availability.)

However, it seems for our route and date, Delta will sell:
    a) Award tickets in the forward cabin,
    b) Award tickets in the main cabin, or
    c) Revenue tickets in the economy cabin.

But...they can't seem to get their system to sell revenue tickets in the forward cabin!

I want to buy seats and they have them for sale....seems like a good match, no? Two different one-hour calls with the Medallion desk, and they couldn't sort it out. Staff all very, very nice..."never seen this in 20 years"...but both ended with a fail.

$2,800 in revenue heading to American.

What happens when you do the search via a third party website (eg. Expedia)? If the Medallion desk can't sort it out then I'm guessing you won't be able to find it on Expedia as well, never hurts to try though :p

Yep, try Kayak and then other OTAs.

Do Expedia and others pull from different inventory allotments? If so, they may well have the seats, DL could have accidentally allocated it all to third parties and not retained any inventory.

There are many possibilities. Without more details (like the date/route/flights) it is quite unlikely anyone here can offer a valid explanation. Maybe there is no F fare published for the city pairs. Maybe something else wonky. Not enough data here to say.

Welcome to the dAArk side... well, the manager of delta.com is stepping down (or already stepped down?) I doubt that the new one would get it worse, though... *terrified*

    NYB,
Could you take a stab suing Expertflyer what the bets fair on Delta would be for a friend going to AMsterdam or Hannover or Frankfurt.
    Prefers Amsterdam but flexible.
Depart: Anytime first week of August
    Return: 21 days after deaprture.

    Thanks

Wait.... maybe they are just saving the seats for complimentary upgrades? :)
It would truly be a product enhancement.

I'm reluctant to post the specific dates/itin here, but to share a few further updates:

    1) Had the same result (getting a leg bumped down to economy, despite that leg in question showing F6 or greater) out of LGA or HPN.
    2) The same day, flying out of JFK, it would sell F on the first leg...but I really wanted to avoid the trip down to JFK for this trip.
    3) I tried two OTAs and had the same result, Y on the first leg, F thereafter. Both OTAs would sell me an F seat if I tried to book a one-way ticket on the just on the first leg.

I ended up looking at this with three DL agents. All were extremely friendly and seemed quite knowledgeable...but each ended up stumped, even after talking to the fare help desk.

The revenue fares creeped up a few hundred dollars overnight on both AA and DL...so I ended up just using DL miles to pay for two more tickets (of course, entirely in the forward cabin), rather than burn an AA miles.

Of course, the taxes/fees were higher on today's DL award tickets than the DL award tickets I bought (identical flights/dates/etc) a week ago. Just a final little kick, I guess. :)

I will write a letter to DL to walk them through all of the details...more for curiosity's sake at this point....and will post back when I hear from them.

Indeed, I'm scratching my head. I did issue a revenue ticket in F on the return (same routing, just reverse direction)....though I cancelled it in exchange for more award tickets.

You would need to give me a departure city.

For searching fares, I'd just go to the DL website.

Are these one way I assume? Need RT
Depart SEATTLE: Aug 1-7 ( anytime)
    Return: 3 weeks later
    EX: SEA - FRA(AUg5)
    FRA-SEA (Aug 26)

Delta to my knowledge doesn't do the fuel surcharge that's BA and One World partners on BA flights.

Are you saying the dates I asked about are availablke for that price?
Delta web site shows cheapest ticket $1709 for economy.

    Depart (SEA): AUgust 1-7
Return(AMS or FRA): 21 days later

These dates are available for RT for $457-$626?
How do I book it for these dates?

    Thank you
