LH was flying an a380 and a 747 between FRA-JFK.now it's changing to a 333 and a 346.i thought its only seasonal but looks like it's not coming back for spring-summer neither.they'll be operating daily 2 747s ....

JFK passengers must've voted with their pocketbooks, and A380 lost. :D

Given the business class seats on the A380 you can hardly blame JFK passengers for voting otherwise and flying with LX, BA, even IB and AZ have a much better hard product on the JFK route.

Plus there are few *A onward connections at JFK, so it's just O/D traffic.

OK, but it is the largest international airport in New York. My suspicion is that it is the very uncomfortable business product that makes this not work.

The product doesn't help, but I expect that LH sizes the aircraft for the O/D traffic. And that they carry a lot more connecting flow traffic at IAD, ORD, IAH, DEN, SFO etc.

Actually i believe they are canceling SFO too...(back to a 744)

hope they're just refitting them with the new biz product:)

They actually compete with UA on the ORD route as opposed to consumer anti-friendly anti-trust waver they have on most other routes- that is why they put decent equipment on the ORD route. The product is the problem. My American colleagues who fly frequently all switched to LX.

I thought all the route limitations on A++ were dropped when CO joined the arrangement?

Does JFK deserve an LH A380? If the market will support it, yes. Otherwise, nope.

Also given the "mean seats" of A380 business class- I suppose it depends on your personal feelings towards New York- if you love New York- the answer is "NO!" or as a New Yorker would say "HELL NO!" and if you don't care so much for New York you may answer "New York deserves the A380 from LH" ;)

No, NY doesn't deserve LH A380s. NY deserves 748.

Supply and Demand determines what aircraft will fly which route. Expect to see the A380 back in the summer during the peak travel season. LH has been known to rotate the A380's (MIA, IAH, etc) based on demand and marketing.

I suspect that there is also still a novelty factor that they want to exploit. There must still be plenty of people who have never been on an A380 and want to experience it. It's so much bigger that that's an experience in and of itself. But I will say that the size of the C cabin means the service isn't very good.

Why should it deserve an A380 from LH?

I see no reason for it to be any different than other airports across the world
