Moving from a lurker to make my first post on a travel site! Pretty experienced traveler, a United 1K and have had the chance to try some of the best international first class products on awards (OZ F, TK F, LX F, TG F) and to take advantage of mistake rates like Alitalia’s Cyprus fare and United’s Auckland fare, Malaysia’s LAX-Taipei and Kuala Lumpur. But registering and posting has always seemed a bit intimidating, wasn’t sure whether my questions made sense or were too obvious, or whether the things I’d offer from experience would seem to obvious. So you haven’t ever seen me before. But since this is a brand new community, and since I was invited to join, I thought I’d start off the beginning of a report that should be an interesting trip next week. We decided to go to Hong Kong for a few days, just to break up a heavy work season. And it’s a chance to experience ANA for the first time, in their new First Square even, and also Cathay Pacific for the first time. We were originally slated to go around the world on this trip using two one way awards. United miles from DC to HKG via Rome and Bangkok on United and Thai First Class for the outbound, and then BA miles HKG to YYZ in CX F Rounded out by a one-way United saver award YYZ-IAD. Miraculously 2 seats on the new ANA first came up on our exact dates, so we switched our outbound. One of the really great things about being a United 1K is the ability to change and cancel awards with no penalty. And being able to just jump on an opportunity like trying out the new ANA first class almost make the two weekend trips to Australia last fall on United Twares that yielded 1K status for the first time worth while. So our itinerary currently stands: DCA-LGA on in US Airways First Overnighting at the Holiday Inn Manhattan View in Long Island City. Currently booked into the Queens view suite, but hoping for an upgrade to the amazing Manhattan View we stayed in two years ago when they made all of their room types available on points by mistake. JFK-NRT in ANA’s new First Square suites Overnighting at the Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport hotel NRT-HKG in Cathay Pacific intra-Asia biz class 3 nights at the Intercontinental Grand Stanford (friends and family rate booked into a Deluxe Harbour View suite as pre-committed Royal Ambassador upgrade) 1 night at the Westin Macau HKG-YYZ in Cathay Pacific First Overnighting at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel attached to the Airport YYZ-IAD in United explus I’ll be updating the report as I go here, so stay tuned, I hope to make an interesting first contribution to a travel community and glad to make it here on Milepoint!
