Is that the best they could do? Not even close to BA's 100K offer :p

I've been waiting to see this one. Last year, Citi and I could not come to an agreement on that 75,000 mile card. I went with Chase, and that decision directed my dollars away from American Airlines and other AAdvantage merchants. Just last week I received a Citi/AA card solicitation. It was very similar to this offer, as I had expected it might be!

Is it just me or did the button that said "already a Citi AA card holder" is no longer available? (1000 miles no longer available?)

Wow - what a quick change. I can verify that I'm no longer seeing the "already a Citi AA card holder" link.
It was there earlier this morning, because I registered for the offer (even though I'm 99.999% certain that I won't receive the 1,000 miles since I recently closed the card and am just paying off the balance now)

Indeed, that was fast! (and extremely disappointing).

It was there this morning and it's gone now for me too, although I did use it this morning when it was there.

The way I see it, the early bird gets the worm... :) I learned from that Delta/facebook thing that airlines are being more and more stingy with the number of freebies they hand out, and 1k miles might seem like nothing until you have tens of thousands of people lining up for them.

Wow, very correct. I'll update the OP to reflect that it looks expired.....

What a cruel joke by AA - offering 1000 mi to existing cardholders then snatching it away. Thanks for nothing.

Not for nothing, but the link to register -- and this thread -- were live for at least 10-11 hours before AA pulled the plug.

There's a centralized thread with all upcoming deals that DestinationDavid is maintaining and is updated daily, and thanks to BarelyElite we all know exactly what deal -- or at least what type of deal -- is coming up until the end of the promo.

For something like this you should be up bright and early to register and get the goodies before other people do. :)

I got in this morning before it was yanked. Saw on another forum that this was by invite so perhaps it was posted as an open offer in error and this was caught and changed?

I think Citi emailed people separately, but AA had apparently planned to do this for quite a while, since we've known about it for weeks.

For once I read the fine print and managed to get in on this deal last night as soon as it went live.

I hope those of us that used the link before it was plugged get the miles.

Yikes, disappointing. Any hope that AA/Citi will honor the deal (a-la US's 1000 mile offer) retroactively?

I doubt it, since there's no real reason for them to do it. It looks like a lot of airlines have this type of "limited time" promotion where you'll get something if you're one of the first few people to try it -- like Delta giving away 5k miles to a few hundred people on facebook.

But after the deadline is reached -- or the preset number of people sign up -- they just nuke it. It's not like they said they'd give everyone miles to begin with... they had a limited time promo for existing users and a longer promo for new users.

I saw the 60k offer for new cardholders, even read about it being 30k after some spend right away and another 30k later, but didn't see the 1k for existing cardholders, so closed the window. Guess I didn't read it closely enough!

    Also, no email from Citi.
