I'm guessing it is a DB backup process but the site seems to go down for 2-5 minutes every day at noon Eastern. Seems an awkward time to schedule that maintenance.

Nearly as awkward as ExpertFlyer doing scheduled maintenance yesterday (friday) evening...

Given these sites are WW sites - is any time a good time?

I'm sure they have data on when there is the least activity. I'd be surprised if that was noon ET.

There are also ways to set up operations to not require downtime every day. But if it is going to happen then I'm betting noon eastern isn't the best time.

I love that everyone is an IT specialist :p is 2-5 minutes such a hardship? :p

Well, I've only seen one person saying "there are better ways to do this" in this thread, and I believe he does work in that field...

I agree that there are likely lower-impact ways to do things, as well, but am not a professional.

Indeed. I wonder if the idea was to pick a time when an admin is pretty much guaranteed to be around or at least awake to deal with a problem if, say, the site doesn't come back up automatically.
