Tasty good news!
I recently flew HKG-JFK-HKG and tried the new dish on the menu. I ordered the braised pork belly and for the first time, I returned the dish and asked to change for a different meal. The dish was too fatty, soggy and not tasty at all. I like the new J seat, but the food offerings are pretty mediocre if not plain bad.
Too bad, but thanks for the update.
Unfortunately mediocre and/or bad food and/or service isn't uncommon on CX J the last couple of years which is becoming a hit & miss thing.
Somehow the idea of special chinese food on a plane just eludes me..... since the essence is fresh ingredients quickly stir fried in a very hot wok ....just before serving Reheated just doesn't do it for me
OTOH I guess I will just have to plan on a lot of champagne for my upcoming flight - if the food isn't good.
Some Chinese food is like that, but not all. In fact, far from all: slow cooked pork belly, braised minced pork, braised beef and curry chicken (all mentioned in that article) are all dishes that don't fall into that category.
Yes, there are certainly some exceptions, but I have yet to have a chinese meal on a plane that came close to one in a (good restaurant) OTOH they are often better than the "western" meals.
CX's western meals are nothing to write home about.
