According to the CX social media feed today. CX884 originally scheduled from HKG-LAX on a 777-300ER made a landing today at Eareckson AFB just near Alaska as a precautionary measure due to smoke in aircraft.

All pax and crew are safe.

Never take a flight with a 4 in the number.

If you're going to work on numbers wouldn't the 2x '8' out flank the 4? :D

They landed, inspected the plane and eventually continued on to ANC where there are actual facilities available to handle the passengers and where the crew could get to before timing out. A "rescue plane" was dispatched from HKG-ANC to collect the passengers and complete the flight. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CPA3330/history/20150729/1900Z/VHHH/PANC

That flight was on the ground for less than 90 minutes before the passengers ultimately departed on ANC-LAX. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CPA884D/history/20150730/0645Z/PANC/KLAX

Not when the 4 comes at the end. Of course, it always comes in the end.

    Just an update to this.

    - After plane landed in ANC, pax were in secure terminal provided with food, wifi, toilets etc.
    - CX ground crew were flown from YVR-ANC to deal with pax as ANC is only a CX Cargo destination.
    - Pax were then flown from ANC-LAX on relief flight CX884D, then greeted by ANC CX ground staff on board with letter of apology and $300 USD cash card.
Time from incident to relief plane dispatch was about 3 hours.

This is how you do IRROPS.

You can say that again, they only had to spend 8 hours on the ground in anchorage and that time included getting the replacement plan from HKG to ANC! That's some efficiency. People spend more time in ERW for a simple mechanical issue. Good job CX.
