If you had to transfer 50,000 points, which would you choose:

  1. British Airways with a 40% bonus

    65.5%
  2. Delta with a 50% bonus and 25,000 MQMs

    34.5%

I'm guessing status with 25k EQM would sway most to delta, but I'm still a sucker for the BA's partner LAN business class to SA for 80k...

I may have to do this. The DL status does nothing for me. And a 40% bonus means 115K points is two tickets to IPC with a stopover in SCL, all in C. That's a HUGE bargain!

Are the Delta 30% and 50% transfer bonuses still stackable? I registered pretty early (both are shown in my delta account), but have not made the transfer yet.

    Sounds tempting!

  6. No. They have revised the T&C's to state this and no one has received them both in quite some time.

I'd prefer the DL because of the EQM's. Also don't like BA as I don't want to end up having to pay taxes in LHR.

Thanks for the update. Should've made my move right after I register.

So now everybody thinks BA transfer is a better deal?

40% BA bonus is quite tempting. It's good until 3/31. Delta elite status would be interesting if I was likely to fly on Delta this year, but I don't think that's going to happen.

It's what works for you. Only you can decide where you want to travel to. I'd personally take the BA miles and redeem them on a JL or CX.

  11. I'm going for the DL miles. Even with only the 50% promo, 75K DL is worth $750 to me and it only costs $250 after netting out the $200 incidental credit. The lounge access is just an occasional plus. I know I'll use the DL miles. Not sure about the BA option

If you signed up before the terms changed (1/3?) you may still be able to email them and get both the 50% and 30%.

Hmm... This is a hard call. I would want to use the miles for an business class trip from the US to Sydney. DL will be three hops and either 240k or 370k. BA will be two hops and 280k + either a ticket or AA award from the LAX or DFW.

I sort of lean towards BA as if I'm in the 330 day window, I can at least book one way on AA and do the reverse on BA. AA is way cheaper than either of these if I can snag it.

    Decisions, decisions...

UK Cardmembers are receiving mailings offering a 40% bonus for transfers to BA made by 31st March. T&C advise it is selected, but some news on FT of people who haven't had the mailing being told it applies across the board. YMMV...

I can see this only if someone already holds Delta status and the 25,000 EQM's would result in a promotion to Gold or higher status that would otherwise not be earned. However, the real value in Membership Rewards is the ability to transfer instantly after verifying award availability. It requires discipline to resist the temptation to trade away this flexibility for a bonus.

MMDV. Got back from a long MR on Saturday hoping to find a 30% (or better) offer. No such luck. I did really well out of the plat referrals late last year. Would be nice to turn those into BA miles.

You can use Delta miles for V Australia and if you find availability its only 150,000 RT in business. Of course finding a Delta award to LAX may be the hardest part, but you can use Alaska if you are on the west coast.

I'd almost given up on this one. UK Amex had a targeted 30% bonus for transfers to BA which ended Christmas Eve. This evening (Feb 7) the bonus miles have credited out of the blue.

Just got approved for AMEX Platinum. Hesitated at first because of the $450 annual fee, however applied after weighing the 50K MR + 50% bonus DL transfer miles, elite status until 2/2013 and based upon the lounge access on 4 upcoming trips. Will not renew unless offered a substantial renewal bonus.

I rarely hear of AMEX offering any kind of renewal bonus for the plat/cent cards.

I agree, I'm going with the DL miles also. I hate the BA taxes / fees, but I do wish that Delta had not made it so difficult to use DL miles for business or first class on Korean Air.

At least with the BA transfer though, you don't have to pay the AMEX federal excise tax. I transferred a bunch of my miles to CO a month ago and it is surprising how quickly that tax adds up when transfer 100k+ miles.

I have 100K+ points that I'm contemplating transferring to BA. I'm holding out until March just on the off chance that they add another pAArtner.
