This CP hotel could not be better situated. Perfect location; perfect views.

Check-in was a breeze. Our room was on the top floor of the lower building, at the town-end of the hall. It felt private. The door was heavy and well insulated. The bed was king-size and comfortable. The room was clean. But all you notice is the glass slider to the balcony - and the view!

From this room's vantage point, you can spot basically anything worth seeing in Queenstown: the promenade, the mountains, the lake, the boats. With the glass door closed, no street noise was heard.

We requested one of every pillow type on the menu, plus the lavender oil. The only other amenity sampled was the sauna room, which has showers, and was conveniently located steps away. Trust me: there are so many activities in/around Queenstown that you are not in the room very much, despite how nice it is.

    The good:
Stunning setting. Friendly check-in. Quality as expected.

    The not so good:
    None. Go now!

    The bad:
    We couldn't stay forever.

    A tip:
Parking on the (San Francisco steep) side street is free. Our car was for driving all over the island. This town is basically 100% walkable.

Nice report. CP ZQN even comes up on pointsbreak sometimes.

I have stayed there on many occasions and every single time I have been bowled over by the view!

I really enjoyed my stay here. Make sure you get a lake view room on a higher floor the awesome view. Sitting on the balcony watching the steam ship & the surrounding landscape was delightful, at least in the warm months. It was quiet even with all the nightlife close by. The staff was very polite and accommodating.

  5. Agree with everyone's comments. Great hotel with cool fire place setting alongside aside the Lobby.

One word of note though... I booked the Suite at this place for a few days and have to say that although its twice the size of a regular Lake View room, the layout is poor. The Lounge room faces the Lake but only has a window and no balcony on the front view side. The balcony shares entrances to the Lounge room and bedroom but the view is only down one side of the lake. Since the suite is on the top floor it seems to share its walls with half the hotels plumbing and throughout the day you can hear strange noises coming from the plumbing which are more than noticeable. But the biggest anooyance in this Suite was the ommission of a TV in the bedroom! To the hotel's credit, they refunded me the difference between the two rooms (a downgrade to a LV Room), even on a F&F rate at a time when I was only PC Gold.

Do yourself a big favour, save the money and stay in one of the Lake View rooms on the 5th floor. I'd definitely go back, maybe in summer next time.

What are Platinum upgrades like? Since burning points only gives you a courtyard view room, I'm curious whether my wife and I have a chance at something better when we're there in May.

I got upgraded as a newly minted gold some years ago when I stayed here.

I have not stayed there for a couple of years but have to say that they were tight with upgrades and the like though they did respond reasonably positively if pushed.

I remember visiting your room when you were there last year, and Bundy Bear liking it better than our apartment, just down the street a little.

I hardly remember staying there when it was the Park Royal, as the Gardens Park Royal (now the Novotel) was always a much nicer spot, especially for catching buses up the mountain. I do agree it’s in a good spot these days though, about the same distance from The Station as the Novotel. And right across the street from the casino if that’s your thing… :p
