My husband and I would like to book award travel to Oz and NZ in the fall. I went to united.com for the fare over, and came up with 105,000 miles per person for: (I hope to use US Airways  miles for this)

lax-syd, asianas airlines (80,000 miles) could do biz for 67,500)

    10-29 depart lax @ 12:50, flight OZ201, fare First (O) 13+ hours, Boeing 747-200
connect time in Seoul is 2 hours 10 minutes
    10:30 depart Seoul @8:20, flight OZ 601, fare Business (I) 10 hours, Boeing 777-200ER

And then 11-13, PER to AKL , Air New Zealand, Flight NZ176 fare Business (I) (25,000 miles)

return flight I wanted to use AA miles, so I went to the Quantas website and for 112,000 miles came up with:

nov 19, AKL - SYD QF142 leaving at 8:35am in economy
SYD - LAX QF107 leaving at noon in business
connect time in SYD is 2 hours

*Our home airport is GJT or MTJ, but we have direct flights on Allegiant air to LAX for less than
    $150 RT, usually.

*We wanted to add another flight going over from SYD - Adelaide, but couldn't do it

I did not reserve these, I think I could do better. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks so much...

How about: OZ F to ICN, OZ/TG C to BKK, TG F to SYD, then NZ Y/C to AKL?

Wouldn't BKK put you a couple thousand miles out out of the way to SYD?

So I see that traveling TG first through BKK has its benefits! A wonderful lounge, plus one-hour massage, and just the experience of TG first. Thanks for the heads up, jimgotkp.
