Any success stories of two people with two separate PNRs both getting CPUs on an domestic award ticket both booked with the primary UA card holder's miles (using the same MP number obviously)?

I know if 2 PAX on same PNR it would not allow companion for an eligible CPU, but what if it was split?

It is customary for UA to split the reservation when the elite member joins the upgrade list. Companion is supposed to get same status but does not ... But two flights ago I got an upgrade and my non-elite wife squeezed in with one as the plane was boarding and gate agent put us in adjoining seats. Morale: be kind to and talk to the gate agent.
