Could this be the end of the cheese and crackers in J on short haul flights?

Just did an Ipsos survey on behalf of AC, asking about short haul J food service.

The good, the end of the cheese and crackers and the reintroduction of something hot, well a good chance of this as three of the new choices they showcased are hot!

    The new choices are

#1 Chicken Fajita wrap (hot) w/grilled vegetables
#2 Herbed chicken skewer (hot) w/red skin potato salad
#3 Chicken Empanada (hot) w/mango salad
#4 Herbed chicken breast (cold) w/grilled vegetables and cous cous salad

    My votes are in!

They also asked for one suggestion on a hot breakfast item and one for a hot lunch selection.

Good to see that they are looking at making changes. I have been amazed how many J customers on my flights have turned down the cheese and crackers.

Is there a way to unlike?

I enjoy the cheese and crackers. I'm probably the only one though.

Hmmmmmmmm I make a bet that I am one of the few who is not that impressed. I know most people will like the above options and look forward to changes in the menu.

I just prefer not having things mixed in with my food, unless I can personally choose what is combined or know what the ingredients are. :D

I use to love the sandwiches/ scones that were offered on the LHR--YYZ segment. Then some chef thought it would be lovely to add some curry to the tuna mixture in the sandwiches. YIKES, I became so ill, I was taken in an ambulance to the hospital upon landing in YYZ. since I can not tolerate any curry spicing. Had eaten the sandwiches in the past and was fine and the menu did not list tuna and Curry sandwiches, so didn't know. After one bite, soon found out.

Another time, I ordered the salmon and it too had a curry spice on top.
It was during the same period as the curry tuna phase.
(Can't eat that Mulgatawny soup in the MLL either. It is not just ordinary veg. soup).:D

At least with cheese and crackers you can see what you are getting with no surprises.
When AC invents some new recipe I am not at all sure.
Remember that weird egg breakfast combo they use to offer us?

I'd like a hot slice of pizza or a hot bacon butty.. :D
Sorry folks, just call me picky, it's ok.
Keep it simple and quality prep for me.... I can hear it now... you think pizza and bacon are quality food ???? [IMG]

Thanks for the heads-up AC_MM, I've probably got that same poll in my email box.. will go and check.

While the cheese and crackers are not the greatest thing, at least AC offers something on these short flights. I have a feeling that they may try out some sort of substantial hot option, not get the response they are hoping for, and possibly decide to cut down to a snack basket in short haul J.

Some aren't bad, but a definite downgrade from what AC offers, even if you are tired of the cheese plate.

On YYZ-EWR they served the herbed chicken skewer (hot) w/red skin potato salad with a small bowl of ketchup. It's been a long time since I've done the flight in J so not sure if it was a new offer. However, I agree it was better than a cheese plate.

Definitely an improvement over the current cheese plate (which I always decline)!!!

However, reading that all four choices consist of chicken, I had to think of a fellow poster who recently introduced the term "stupid chicken". [IMG]

As far as I´m concerned, it doesn´t even have to be hot meal, a nice salad (maybe caesar salad with grilled salmon), Italian antipasti with smoked meats, etc. would be great.

I think chicken is sort of the de-facto cheap & safe choice of meat, hence the many variations in the survey.

Sounds like multiple excuses to keep their favourite red pepper farmer in business.

I really liked the cold roasted veggie plate they used to do up front in the E90s before they had ovens. Maybe they could put some grilled chicken on that!

I also did the survey, but the "ideas" they're asking questions on have gone beyond the conceptual stage. Last night: YYZ-YUL, I had #3 and a couple of weeks ago, I had #1 on the same route. While I do like the cheese, I also really appreciated something different--and the food wasn't that bad. One thing they need to work the bugs out on is the temperature--the products are new so FAs are not sure how long to warm for. In both cases, items needed to be returned to the oven for a while.

Same here. I'd rather buy something better at the terminal and bring it on-board than treat myself to that cheese plate.
