I gave it a try with one random example: 1 week rental from SEA on 7/25/13, intermediate car.
Costco search returned 4 quotes, with the lowest being $555. Expedia returned 7 quotes, with the lowest being $463. If I had no preference for a specific rental company, I'd pay 20% higher with Costco.

I've actually had pretty good success with Costco ... but in the end its not much cheaper than me doing National and getting miles for my rental. So I just stick w/National.

I can buy 1000 UA miles from Chase UR for $25. For a long rental, I'd definitely pay $25 for my pick of cars (or anything other than an Impala). :)

huh? But I go with National for the UA's 1000 miles and the choice of cars! Costco is often only a few dollars or maybe $20 max cheaper than National when I look.

Weird, I just got a quote on Costco for as low as $475 on Enterprise. Week of 7/25. I'm guessing things are going to be a little jinky in SEA that week...it's SeaFair. Rates start dropping after that, but it is still $$ throughout August.

Just out of curiosity are you using a corporate discount code for National or some publicly available one? They are coming back a bit pricey for me.

Costco is, probably, as economical, as any other site, if you check back, regularly, and compare it with all the other options. But for the time it takes, I would take the Costco travel site, and just lock it in. If that isn't good enough, then do all the other sites for the few pennies it would save.
Nuttin' is cheap or would that be cheep, cheep at OGG darn it anyway.

I use a combo of codes from UA.

One is for extra 1000 miles plus 10% off.
Coupon is for free weekend day.

National charges the surcharge for FF miles which makes it not worth it for me in the least bit, I rather get the credits.

I used 5028009 and NU3210FPI correct? Still comes out ~ $100 week more than Costco offer.
