For a limited time, BA is offering 25% bonus on points transferred to Avios. I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this one ... any good redemptions from the US to Southeast Asia on BA partners?

How to transfer from Hilton points? What is the ratio?

I would be sure you have a use for the Avios before you transfer the points. If you have AMEX points, they often offer a bonus for transfer as well. I agree with edekba that the SPG are more valuable for hotels in general, but you might find a use that is more valuable for you.

Appreciate the input ... but I have been SPG member since 2005 & 4 years as an elite and have yet to redeem any SPG points for hotel rooms. All were converted to AA miles at one point or another. Currently, between our two accounts, we have around 100K SPG points and exploring the possibility of BA Avios help taking us on our next trip to Asia.

Well, when you put it that way.... I never seem to have enough hotel points and certainly don't have a stockpile like you do. Avios are distance based however, so you might want to check their tool for how many you might need for your family to fly to Asia. Certainly for the short hops they are invaluable.

I don't know about 200K points each ... AA requires 110K for each LAX-BKK in business.

I do understand that the whole trip cannot be financed by the converted Avios ... my post merely stated that the Avois would help making the 4-ticket-trip possible ;)

I will have to examine your plot, because it very well could help me land 4 tickets to KUL, doing this. Between two accts, I am sitting on 120K SPG points.

Maybe offseason USA <-> Japan via AA & then Japan/BKK via Avios?

According to Dan's Deals, flights from Chicago to Tokyo cost 60K Avios per business class seat. Conversely, it would be the same cost for the same seat from LAX to BKK, no?

So, if wee do the conversion plus two cards at 50K each ... that will be more than enough to get all four of us LAX-BKK in business! :)

Is there a OW partner that flies direct from lax to BKK though? I can't think of one to make this work. Also, I think lax to BKK is much longer than ORD to NRT but could be wrong. Haven't checked the gcmapper.

No way. ORD - NRT is not the same as LAX - BKK even with AA. Different Asia Regions.

ORD - NRT is 6274 miles
    LAX-NRT-BKK is 8340 miles
    LAX-HKG-BKK is 8309 miles

Just checked BA Avios calculator ... the additional charges are just too prohibitive. Never mind, will keep the SPG points for another day and another way. Now, back to the drawing board ... ;)

I'd like to convert avios into SPG and/or Hilton points. Their value for me is much, much higher, usually around 5 cents on my hotel redemption history. Avios, OTOH, are effectively worthless for me because I've no chance to use them for short haul flights.

Short Haul in USA/Europe are pretty well covered IMO; (AA/BA/AB) but Asia ... If one of the China (Southern/Eastern) went from Skyteam to OW that would be great. To me it seems like Skyteam has a stranglehold on China with China Air, China Southern & China Eastern. *A has Air China & Eva. What does OW have? Cathay... & I guess ML to the south; but that's pretty far south from China.

We are buried by our hotel points & the free nights we have in our accounts, while our airline programs balances are depleted. And, hence, I thought this was an opportunity to replenish for the next trip ...

Keep in mind that SPG points will transfer to many airline programs, almost all at 1:1 with a Starwood bonus:
Quick Links>Redemption Options>Transfer Miles> then select your program
In addition you can use them with Starwood to book flights directly.

I don't use that myself because I consume all my SPG points thanks, among other things, to them counting award stays for status

What airlines were you looking at flying? What were some of the routes and fees they were charging?

Any that would take us there ... but especially with the OW partners of AA, JL, CX, etc.

Not much in the way of fuel charges/fees on AA, right? Were there high fuel charges/fees on JL and CX?
